Commitment: the state of being emotionally impelled to do something. My commitment is to making art, loving life and doing well.

Daily Artworks... my continuing challenge for 2015: Observe and record. Record and observe. And stretch - s-t-r-e-t-c-h - myself.
What will I discover?

Torngats 2015 - Where Nature and Culture Connect 02

Torngat Mountains from Saglek Airstrip

The southernmost peaks of the Torngat Mountains...
... just a glimpse of the Torngat Mountains National Park.

Seen from the Saglek airstrip, the mountains and islands of Saglek Fjord look inviting. It's a quick walk down the hill to the landing beach where boats wait to take us to the Base Camp.  Thanks to Muriel Edmunds for the photo.

Torngats 2015 - Where Nature and Culture Connect 01

Flying Into Saglek

Saglek Station...
...you can see for miles and miles.

Geological features like the massive Cape Uivak mark the entry to the Saglek Fjord. At 1,600-plus feet elevation, the Cape and its North Warning System dome are landmarks for navigation along the north Labrador coast and far inland.  Thanks to Muriel Edmunds for the photo.

Torngats 02 - Busy Saturday at Saglek Airstrip

Two Twin Otters and a Helicopter

Passengers for Torngat Mountains Base Camp
- coming and going.

We are just back from an incredible stay at the Torngat Mountains Base Camp in northern Labrador, Canada.
Air Labrador's Twin Otters fly passengers in and out of the Saglek air strip enroute to and from the Base Camp. Between here and there is a quick zodiac ride to the waiting longliner, a brief but scenic ocean trip, and then a welcoming lunch of soup and sandwiches to greet us at the Base Camp.
