Commitment: the state of being emotionally impelled to do something. My commitment is to making art, loving life and doing well.

Daily Artworks... my continuing challenge for 2015: Observe and record. Record and observe. And stretch - s-t-r-e-t-c-h - myself.
What will I discover?

Seeing What's Not There - Day 13

School Window Reflections

Reflections on School Windows
-  on a sunny Spring afternoon.

This was not the school I went to, but I think of the many pairs of eyes that have looked out longingly from these windows onto a sunny day in spring, their owners battling Spring Fever, or else succumbing to it.

Seeing What's Not There - Day 12

Shadows on Birchbark

Shadows and a Sunny Glow
- from the birchbark on a mature treetrunk.

The winter takes its toll on the outer layers of birchbark. The wind shreds it, and the frost splits it, and the coming and going of daytime sunshine expands and contracts it. And the shadows from bright sunshine enhance the textures of the birchbark and the volume of the tree trunk.

Close Up and Personal - Day 9

A Flash of Color in a Beam of Sunlight

Looking out the Window
- the flower (and me) basking in the winter sunshine

Someone more knowledgeable than I am says that this is technically a "perlargonium" rather than a "geranium," among the differences being how the plant would tolerate cold weather. Under either name, I'm sure that this fine specimen is happier being on the inside looking out, than otherwise.
Me, too, I'm happy blinking at the flashes of color and winter sunshine that make sitting in front of my window so pleasurable.

Birches and their Neighbors - Day 9

The Colors of Birch-bark

Birch-bark on a Bright Day
- intense sunshine reveals brilliant colors

It's a cool and crisp day, with full strength winter sunshine reflecting off the snow. On a day like this, you see more color everywhere because there is more light to reveal it. Birch bark's natural colors go way beyond pale grays and beiges, they are oranges and pinks and yellow-oranges, glowing in the sunlight.
