Commitment: the state of being emotionally impelled to do something. My commitment is to making art, loving life and doing well.

Daily Artworks... my continuing challenge for 2015: Observe and record. Record and observe. And stretch - s-t-r-e-t-c-h - myself.
What will I discover?

Saglek Fjord Watercolor Sketches 07

Magma Dyke Formation

Older Rocks Fractured...
...and new melted rock came up in the cracks.

Millions of years ago, the ancient rock of these mountains cracked and allowed molten lava to seep upwards. Today, mountains with these bands of contrasting colored rock are landmarks among the coves and islands along the Saglek Fjord.

Looking up the Fjord

Cliffs Sloping...
...steeply into the sea.

Looking from sea level upward, it is difficult to get a sense of the scale of the mountain heights.

Big Island Landing Beach

Big Island Slopes Down to the Sea...
...in a rocky landing beach.

Despite the tall cliffs on the island, boats can land in places where the rocky shoreline slopes to the sea. Torngat Base Camp, Torngat Mountains National Park, northern Labrador, Canada.

Peaks Behind Peaks

Mountains Rising...
...higher and higher in the distance.

From sea level, the farthest away mountains peer up behind the closer ones. Torngat Base Camp, Torngat Mountains National Park, northern Labrador, Canada.

Close and Distant Mountains

Atmospheric Effects...
...make distant mountains appear close enough to touch.

When the mountains loom close, you can expect there will be stormy weather soon. Torngat Base Camp, Torngat Mountains National Park, northern Labrador, Canada.

Torngat Mountains in the Distance

Islands Scoured by Glaciers...
...are worn down just like the mountains in the distance.

U-shaped valleys reveal where glaciers have ground away the rock to sea level. Torngat Base Camp, Torngat Mountains National Park, northern Labrador, Canada.
