Close Up and Personal - Day 1

Christmas-time Reflection

Fifty Years of Reflecting Christmas
- what has this ornament looked out on?

One of our holiday traditions is using old family decorations, like Grandma's silver and blue glass ornaments, which we have been hanging on the Christmas tree for more than fifty years. Although the glass is intact, the mirrored coating inside the bubbles is starting to break down and get cloudy, in the way old mirrors do. To my mind, this patina of age makes the ornaments lovelier to look at.

Christmas and New Year's is a time for personal reflection, and as I'm photographing this ornament, I am wondering what other Christmas scenes has this bubble reflected over the years?

Happy New Year 2014!

Fifty years! Quite the span, half a century. So much word play too, in reflection.

But I was surprised, when I saw the title included the word personal, it occurred to me that we might see you smiling back at us from the mirror of the ornament? But no.

The eye of the camera is a powerful one. And I am linking the camera eye to the inside of the ornament like a little security spybot. (lol, not really!)

I have enjoyed these daily glimpses into your world, and the world of the birch, and the world of the snowy north as you've seen it in the mornings. A quick bit of eye candy -- a treat-- to savor regularly. Thank you for sharing them, Mavis.

AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, but yes, Barbara, I am in the photo... like Alfred Hitchcock standing in the background, and grinning from ear to ear! Look for me beneath the bottom corner of the ceiling garland.
This month's project, as you may have guessed, is for me to explore farther making close-up photos. And the subjects will all have some personal significance for me. I intend to try out different lighting and other techniques. And there will probably be quite a few "selfies" throughout the month, too. :)
